Expect a hefty price for a competent install.

Stay away from Honda/Acura dealers. Their mechanics are not well trained on the internals of transmissions.

I had mine installed at an Acura dealer, and had to stage an afternoon full of calls between myself, the mechanic and Quaiffe's tech support. The mechanic insisted the LSD was too big. The Quaiffe tech rep and myself concluded he was over his head and had to prod him into finishing the install with promises that if he broke the speedo ring, it wouldn't be his fault.

One day late, it fit, install done properly. However it was annoying and expensive. 8 hours labor @ $75/hour + tax. Ouch!

A local tranny shop that offered to do it, (the only one out of a dozen I called who didn't laugh at me when I asked if they'd install an LSD), estimated 12 hours labor @$50/hour.

The only cheap way to do it is to find a good mechanic who does side jobs. Good luck with that!

I can't believe how difficult the lsd is to install into a B series tranny.
Would it be worthwhile to go with an ITR tranny over a Quaife?
It seems that dollar wise it would be the better investment. Any opinions on this?

The only way an ITR LSD would be cheaper to install would be if it came with a speedo ring already pressed on and you don't have to swap it from the stock diff.

Supposedely the ITR diff may break if you completely unload one front tire (inside wheel bouncing up from a curb) and come down on it under power.

Other than strength, the ITR LSD gets the job done.

Man, you guys are getting raped on install! A competant mechanic should need no more than 1-2 hours once the tranny is removed (which you can do yourself to save money). I paid 80 bucks to have my 3rd and 4th gear replaced, press on the speedo gear, and install the diff. Only took 1 hour.

ITR LSD's are $300? Whenver I see them on ebay or something, they always run around $6xx (nearly $700).

Everything as far as price, labor rates, quality, etc. is relative. You can have things done cheap, fast and right, but usually not all three. Take all the feedback you get and make your own decisions on what's realistic or not in your situation. My clutch was failing and I decided to get a Quaife at the same time. I was able to pick up a Quaife, a new clutch, flywheel and motor mounts the next day. An Acura dealer did the job over two days and gave me a loaner car. I paid about $650 or so for the labor, loaner and convenience. Could I have done it cheaper, etc., probably. Am I happy with what I got for what I paid, definitely.

first of all, I do not agree with NOT taking it to a dealer. The dealer has to have someone there that can do it according to their franchise agreement! Thats why the dealer is required to send someone to school every quarter.

I charge $200 to open a tranny no matter what the reason is, but that is a bench price, if you want it taken out and reinstalled, you add another $200.
I will guarntee it will be right, or I will make it right at my cost.

I'm a certified Master Acura tech with to many trannys under my belt to list and with absolutely no comebacks!!!

I'll vouch for Randy's work - He did my Quaife/Flywheel/Clutch as promised and I have had no problems. the speedo is even accurate
